Planning & Design

Our design philosophy is rooted in a place of connectedness. We find meaning in the design phase as it is the seed for the fruiting project. We aim to create spaces that are beautiful, functional, and in harmony with the surrounding architecture and nature. Our concepts become sketches, which in turn become shop drawings. These drawings guide the careful cutting in the shop.

Timber Framing

If it’s one thing that brings us joy, it’s the experience of fresh shavings collecting around our feet as we begin crafting on the sawhorses. Our frames are laid out and cut by hand in our shop in Lisbon Falls. The art of timber framing involves shaping each joint to create a strong interlocking structure. Traditional joinery techniques are used to connect the timbers without the need for nails or screws, resulting in a timeless wooden construction. From the first pencil lines to the roughing out of joints, from chiseling out and the ritual of the final chamfer, there is a deep satisfaction throughout the whole journey of each timber.

Installation

From the jump, we design structures that carefully consider the end goal of raising. A successful frame is well-thought-out with an efficient plan to keep the building process smooth and safe. We relish the excitement of this phase, and our expertise lends itself to solving even the greatest assembly challenges. Our favorite moment is plugging in the final piece and stepping back to enjoy the completed masterpiece.
