New Meadows Barndominium

Imagine your classic New England barn silhouette, but adapted for the modern living scenario. Meet the New Meadows Barndominium, an architectural word that we learned from our clients who had a clear vision. The intention was to combine a large barn-inspired flex-space with living quarters.  On the barn side, you enter  through large garage doors to a cathedral-esque realm not only hosting events, but harboring a workshop, boats, and equipment. The living quarters feature bedrooms below and an open concept kitchen and gathering space above. The result is the marriage of a cozy home with an authentic barn all under one roof.

With a footprint of 30’ x 70, this frame is built from a mix of stout Eastern White Pine and Hemlock timbers, and showcases a 30’ wide clearspan king post truss.  It features loads of traditional mortise and tenon joinery for a strong construction, and is enclosed with cellulose-insulated walls. The purlins span across the roof structure to catch vertical boarding as well as insulated panels above. Skylights offer illumination for a magical effect from the trusses into the spaces below.

A true manifestation brought to life through collaboration with designers, architects, engineers, and the clients.
